Suggestion
Milo trees are so hardy on the shoreline. Pretty too. Good shade and manageable. Can be a bit messy.
Suggestion
The Singapore plumeria are nice because they retain their leaves year round.
Suggestion
The planting options look great for trees and people. Allows mobility and healthy trees. Would love to see this.
Suggestion
Beach Heliotrope (tahinu) is not native and maybe invasive. It is in the MCPP but not listed as native. Suggest checking to ensure plant descriptions are accurate.
Suggestion
Please no more shower trees!!!! They are everywhere. Choose a beautiful native instead!
Suggestion
The bump outs are nice. The roadway looks very wide. Please plan for narrow roads with wide sidewalks.
Suggestion
This is beautiful. I love the trees with space to grow. Grates around the trunk are a nice way to extend the sidewalk and allow the trees to absorb excess water with space to grow.
Suggestion
The building on the left is way too tall! Out of scale with Lahaina and Luakini.
Suggestion
Other varieties of plumeria are:
- better for making lei
- better for Lahaina’s climate
- prettier with nice variety.
Recommend the colorful Plumeria or the white with yellow centers.
Suggestion
Many businesses in the area have traditionally relied on off-site or shared parking arrangements due to the limited space in this dense, historic district. If the city is going to continue requiring private property owners and businesses to provide parking for their customers—even off-site—it doesn’t make sense to also add more public parking. Doing so could undercut private efforts and create unnecessary competition for limited land.
Suggestion
Parking on this street parallel to Front Street could make it harder for traffic to move smoothly and might create challenges for deliveries and emergency access. It’s important to keep these streets clear to support local businesses and residents. It also seems unfair to the property owners if their lot size is being reduced, taking away space and then using it for public parking doesn’t seem reasonable.
Suggestion
Most of these parcels are parking lots so it would make sense to have a safe sidewalk for pedestrians. Should be done at the County's expense though.
Question
How are the locations and affected parcels of these proposed roadways going to be chosen?
Suggestion
I would welcome a transit hub.
Suggestion
The public parking was hard to find spaces even on the dirt and rock part. Private is expensive, especially for those of us who live here. I know most of us parked on the other side of the back of Fleetwood's or over by Foodland and walked. This is hard on people with limited mobility.
Suggestion
I feel like we have such an opportunity to have native planting and greenery. Make it a restful spot, not just tourist spots everywhere. There was a reason many local people liked to hang out on the lawn in front of the library.
Suggestion
Lots and lots of trees, just not Monkeypod trees.
Suggestion
This street always felt unsafe to walk. Luakini too. Cars just not paying attention, running the stop signs...
Suggestion
I like this concept, but the materials need to be smooth for people with walkers and rollators and in wheelchairs and mobility scooters.
Suggestion
Lots of parking on the streets accessing Front St so that we can give big sidewalks and no parking on Front st
Suggestion
Center turn lane becomes less necessary if you go with a 1-way road approach for Front St.
Suggestion
Design a free shuttle service from one end of the street to the other. This allows people to walk one way and get shuttled back to where they parked their cars. A large parking structure to handle typical daily visitor peaks built many blocks away from the entire area with free shuttle service from 8:00am to midnight will help to offload significant traffic loads on the streets.

Parking should be FREE too! We don’t want to penalize people who want to visit the area!
Suggestion
Still think some car access some of the time or some of the days is important for the businesses on Front street. So pedestrian only should not be the design but planned for specific hours only and you can adjust those hours based on how things work out. Car access in the mornings for deliveries seems to make sense to me.
Suggestion
Please add a couple of maintained public restrooms in the plans.
Suggestion
Not sure which is needed more. Double lans or a turn signal. Either option is preferred over restricted options.
Suggestion
With trees make places to sit. Hawaiians enjoyed Lahaina’s hot seasons by sitting in the shade in a breeze. Awesome!
Suggestion
No parking on the street.
Suggestion
Always go native first. Look at Royal Lahaina grounds. Natives are highest chance of thriving and lowest maintenance.
Suggestion
All the photos are full of cars in the streets. Locals park where they live. Make large parking structures throughout lahaina for rented cars.
Suggestion
All the time. 100%
Suggestion
Permanent. Manhattan Beach in California has alternating “walk” streets and alleys with garage and service access. Let’s do that.
Suggestion
Parking is good
Suggestion
Yes on parking
Suggestion
Don't make front street pedestrian only. Keep at least one way traffic.
Suggestion
Off street parking that is free for residents.
Suggestion
Parking garages at each end. The outlet mall garage was good but needs to be bigger. And some wider stalls cause the one at Whalers is nice but very small and tight for trucks, vans, suvs. And maybe a section parking for golf carts and charging stations.
