Existing Street Network

Suggestion
I they’re saying we don’t need a bike lane on slow streets with no parking like Front St. I agree.

We do need bike lanes on streets with parking, traffic lights, and/or higher speed limits.
Suggestion
I don’t object to it, but I’d go for the free-to -residents parking, if it existed, instead.
Suggestion
This is good. This intersection was unsafe, walking or driving.
Suggestion
Weird to have this little pocket of parking here.
Question
Is this going to be the only bikeway in town??
I like the protective bullards.
Isn’t there likely to be a parking structure at this end of town, making on-street unnecessary?
Suggestion
Yes, this is good. I walked and drove this intersection regularly, and either way, every part of it was unsafe.
Suggestion
I like the idea of connecting all the streets like this and and making them pedestrian and bike friendly. It seems logical to eliminate street parking here, too. The flow of traffic would be much smoother and integrate better with Front St traffic.
Suggestion
That’s a very good idea.
Suggestion
Remove the tour bus parking in the county lot across from the old Kam III school, and Improve that whole parking area and charge everyone a reasonable parking fee. Ma’alaea harbor is $1/hr. Parking lots are a great way for the county to make money to maintain the town.
Suggestion
Please add a little extra parking for the harbor. A little would go a long way. Mahalo
Suggestion
Utilize some of the old school site for public parking
Suggestion
Have some on-street parking, but let's minimize this for greater walkability and beauty.
Suggestion
Please incentivize all the private owners to utilize one streamlined parking management software that is the easiest to use without having to download apps or spend 10 minutes figuring out.
Suggestion
Hopefully you will put power poles UNDERGROUND? This will upgrade the feel of Lahaina to feel like it was before electricity. Nothing worse than having the views of the ocean hampered by huge poles.
Suggestion
Consider utilizing root barriers to keep trees from going lateral first and lifting up sidewalks.
Suggestion
I like the idea of no parking in the main town center and making it convenient for people to park outside and take shared rides or shuttles/trolleys into the town center.
Suggestion
Please consider Koa trees sprinkled throughout in areas where a larger canopy warrants. Gotta do some monkey pods too.
Suggestion
Keep them native if possible, drought-tolerant, and low maintenance. Trees are key to the rebuild.
Suggestion
We need to limit the cars and enhance pedestrian/bike. Keep most cars outside of the town center, with free shuttles available to bring folks inside.
Suggestion
LOVED THOSE LARGE TREES SPRINKLED throughout. Please choose some strategic locations to spend additional money to plant much larger trees so the town looks established sooner.
Suggestion
Need to have sidewalk the ENTIRETY of Front street. Not sure why there are any proposed sections that are RED or have no sidewalk.
Suggestion
Please include sidewalks/bike path that goes ALL the way to Safeway! This will help the community access Front Street safely.
Suggestion
Please include space/amenities/racks for electric scooters/bikes sprinkled throughout downtown. Scooters cut down on vehicle traffic 1 for 1. Dedicated bike lane would be great, but not at the expense of narrower sidewalks. But please don't paint the bike lane bright green like the picture shows. 😊

Suggestion
This is a great design. Safer with space for trees and people.
Suggestion
we should be prioritizing native and food trees. I don't see any food trees here. I get the liability thing but maybe we need to change county code to make this happen.

we also shouldn't use leaf blowers anymore.
in reply to Heather's comment
Suggestion
yes multiple injuries and deaths happened here.
combination of bad lighting and unsafe driving
Suggestion
it's shocking to see visually something we knew already: how inaccessible Lahaina was.

universal accessibility is a must.
in reply to Neil's comment
Suggestion
I agree with part of the concept but
1) why/how should it be free?
2) we should be investing in great, accessible public transit.
3) paying for parking isn't penalizing visitors, it's having visitors pay for the impact that the have on the ecology of an area
Suggestion
no cars here
Suggestion
my dream is no vehicular streets makai of the highway
Suggestion
invest in excellent (accessible) public transportation options so that people can stop being so obsessed with cars. we're so disconnected with nature and this is one of the many reasons.

we should be getting physical activity while grounding outside. we need more time outside among the plants!
Suggestion
yes, more vehicle-free options!
Suggestion
I think cars should be limited as much as possible in Lahaina, but ESPECIALLY in the harbor area.
Suggestion
people seem to think this is only about front street.
we should ABSOLUTELY have designated bike lanes on our streets, especially on the highway (or at the MINIMUM).
I'd prefer bike lanes to on-street parking.
there was funding for infrastructure in the CDBG-DR funding, so some of that should be going towards establishing a reliable, green public transit option so that walkability can be the priority for Lahaina.
in reply to Ikaika W.'s comment
Question
so you think we should have cars but not bikes?
Suggestion
*permanent!
Suggestion
Gold cart rental, only golf carts in town.
Suggestion
Prioritize walking and biking, not driving fast.
Suggestion
Native trees between parking is good.
in reply to Lois Reiswig Maui Arts League's comment
Suggestion
It is the Old Prison? A sidewalk alongside the prison, seems safer.
Suggestion
Nice, the tree and the sidewalk with some parking.
Suggestion
This design is cool-literally. Different but fits Lahaina.
